Can anyone be hypnotised?

This is a common question that potential clients ask me, and it’s understandable that you might be reluctant to make a booking with a hypnotherapist if you doubt your ability to be hypnotised!

Here’s what I say in response:

  • Hypnosis is a naturally occuring state. You move in and out of trance like states everyday, doing things like driving and watching TV. When your mind is focused and you are absorbed in an experience, your brainwaves change and you are more open to suggestion.

  • The more relaxed you are, the easier it is to let go and become absorbed in hypnosis. It’s my job as your therapist to guide you and hold a safe and supportive space for you to experience this.

  • Everyone is capable of relaxing their body and focusing their mind, with the right guidance. These are great skills to have, and you definitely get better with practice.

  • You don’t need to be in a particularly deep state of trance to get great benefit from the session.

  • Hypnosis is only part of what I do! Some of the greatest ‘aha moments’ my clients have come from our therapeutic discussions prior to or after the actual hypnosis part of the session. I am also a strategic psychotherapist and coach, so bring all these skills to my client work.

  • The best preparation for a hypnotherapy session is to come with an open mind, an attitude of curiosity and a willingness to have your mind changed in the best possible way!
