How to overcome perfectionism

Date

Perfectionism is a real joy killer. It’s that little voice inside your head that is just never satisfied. It’s the tendency to look for faults, find the error, and never feel good enough. Perfectionism is basically a form of high functioning anxiety, and can produce all the symptoms of anxiety which can really impact your mental and emotional health.

It’s worth taking the time to really understand the ways you are thinking about yourself and your life which result in the desire for perfection. Hypnotherapy for perfectionism is a great way to uncover these pattens and shift your perspective so you can regain your momentum and peace of mind.

3 ways to stop being a perfectionist:

1. Get honest with yourself about whether your expectations are realistic. Perfectionists often have unrealistically high expectations, which virtually guarantees you will never be satisfied. Of course it’s wonderful to aim high and to want to achieve great things, but you are more likely to succeed and feel satisfied with your progress if your expectations are grounded in reality.

2. Perfectionism at its heart, is often a fear of judgement. Putting too much emphasis on external validation and other people’s opinions can easily increase anxiety levels, and can lead to paralysis and procrastination. Shift your focus to what you did do right and to the progress you have made. Make your opinion of yourself more important that the opinion of other people. Resist the temptation to compare yourself to others.

3. Understand at a deep level, that perfection is impossible. You might know this intellectually, but that isn’t enough. You need to absorb that message into deep into your subconscious mind. Forgive yourself for being human, life is messy! We all fall short of the mark sometimes. You can absolutely be a dedicated high achiever, while still allowing yourself the freedom to be human.
